Focus - Critical Thinking
We will be focusing on Active Listening and Questioning skills The first critical thinking skill is "Support". Please practice giving good reasons for opinions. Examples of questions that can be used to guide supportive thinking: "Why?" "Why do you say that?" "How do you know??" "What is your reason for saying that?" "What facts does your belief rest on?" "What authorities can you cite in support of what you say?"
A second skill is "Clarification" - "What do you mean by_____?" " Could you say that in other words?" "Could you put it another way?"

Gifted Services Changes for 2009-10
Dear Parents,
The Boise School District has redesigned how Gifted services will be provided beginning this coming 2009/2010. These changes were made to increase equitability in gifted educational options across the four quadrants. There will be one school with a full-time gifted classroom in each quadrant. In the Borah quad, Monroe will be the full-time school. It will have three combination classes 1-2, 3-4 and 5-6. The other quadrants will also have a full-time classroom each. Capital’s fulltime program will remain at Valley View, Boise’s will be at Cynthia Mann and Timberline’s program will be located at White Pine.
Students who are fully qualified (98%ile Achievement and I.Q.) will have the option of a Full-time Gifted Classroom. Parents will be responsible for transportation. To get on a list for next year, parents will need to contact the principal at Monroe, Beverly Boyd, 854-5620. They will need to let Mrs. Richardson know of their intention so that she provide testing data.
Currently identified students who wish to remain in their home school still have the option of the Pull-out GATE Program. It will remain located at Hillcrest and will serve Amity, Maple Grove, Jefferson and Hillcrest. The district will provide transportation.
Further information concerning these two options will be provided by the District as it becomes available.
